Basic education, grades 1-6

We have small and medium-sized schools for grades 1-6 geographically distributed throughout the municipality.

Morning and afternoon activities

The morning and afternoon programs are intended for students in grades 1 and 2, as well as for students with special needs.
The aim of these programs is to support the children's well-being and health, as well as to complement the educational work of both home and school.

Before and after the school day, children are offered a safe environment where, under adult supervision, they can participate in a variety of stimulating activities.

The morning and afternoon programs are organized at the following locations:

  • Vörå center – Koskeby skola (also for students of Rökiö skola)
  • Oravais – Oravais skola
  • Maxmo – Maxmo Kyrkoby skola
  • Karvsor – Karvsor skola
  • Kimo – Solbacken

The morning and afternoon activities are based on:

The plan for morning and afternoon care is currently being revised.

When choosing activities, special emphasis is placed on play, creative activities, and positive experiences.

The program also offers opportunities for social interaction, aesthetic experiences, stimulating physical activities both indoors and outdoors, as well as chances for independent activities, recreation, and rest.

Additionally, there is a focus on other activities that support development, such as manual skills, language and visual expression, music, and everyday tasks. If needed, children can also be given the opportunity to complete their homework from school.

Children should have the opportunity to influence which activities they participate in during the morning and afternoon programs.

  • To support the educational work of the home and school, and the emotional and ethical development of children.
  • To support the welfare and equality of children in society, prevent exclusion, and increase participation.
  • To offer children diverse opportunities to engage in guided and recreational activities and facilitate rest in a calm environment under the supervision of a qualified and suitable person for the task.
  • Children who have started grade 1 no longer have the right to early childhood education.
  • These children are not legally entitled to morning and afternoon activities during breaks, but it is up to the municipalities whether to provide it or not.
  • Children who can come to the daycare during school breaks are those who have a spot in one of our morning and afternoon care units until they start grade 3 (older children with special needs in exceptional cases).
  • These children should not have a contract for early childhood education!
  • During shorter breaks, they pay according to their contracts for morning and afternoon care.
  • During the summer holiday:
  • When the summer break form is sent out to the after-school programs and returned indicating a need for summer care, the program should create a new contract for summer care based on the number of hours needed.
  • Since school time is not counted during the summer, most contracts fall into a higher price bracket, typically more than 4 hours per day and possibly more days per month.
  • If they already pay the full-time cost of 120 €, the contract does not need to be changed, just extended for the period needed.
  • Once the after-school staff has made a new agreement with the parents, it is returned to the office secretary to enter the agreement correctly.

Morning and afternoon activities for children covered by Section 1 of the Special Care Act can be organized as special care, such as rehabilitative morning and afternoon activities, thereby making the activities free of charge for the family.

In this program, children who fall within the scope of the Special Care Act have the opportunity for guided interaction with peers, which supports their communication and helps them learn alongside other children. Families of other children with disabilities pay the normal fee.

To receive free rehabilitative morning and afternoon activities, the following is required:

  • The need and extent of the need (e.g., half or full day) must be included in the child’s special care plan or mentioned in the associated individual service plan.
  • Parents must apply to make the morning and afternoon activities free of charge and provide the necessary documents.
  • Free rehabilitative morning and afternoon activities are granted from the first month after submitting the application.

A freely written application from the guardians should include:

  • The child's details.
  • The guardians' details.
  • Care location.
  • A brief description of the basis for free rehabilitative morning and afternoon activities.
  • Attachments: Special care plan or individual service plan.

The guardian can apply for an exemption from or reduction of the client fee when the school year/activity has begun or when the need arises. Applications are processed only once all necessary attachments have been submitted. Based on the submitted documentation, an income assessment will be conducted.

Examples of reasons why a guardian might need to apply for an exemption from or reduction of the client fee:

  • The family's economic situation, e.g., low-income households
  • Temporary or regular client relationship within income support
  • Significant reduction in income opportunities due to long-term illness, unemployment, or similar reasons

A decision to reduce the client fee by 50% or grant an exemption from the fee can be made starting from the beginning of the following month after the application and all necessary attachments have been submitted. The decision is valid at most until the end of the relevant school year. Decisions are not made retroactively.

If the family's income or family size changes after a decision has been made, the Department of Education must be notified immediately. Exemptions or reductions granted based on incorrect information may be charged retroactively.

Income Assessment

An income assessment is conducted based on the submitted documentation. Once the family's gross income has been calculated, the client fee may be reduced by 50% or exempted if the total gross income falls below the gross limit €/month, according to family size. Applications will be rejected if the calculated gross income exceeds the table limits.

When calculating the family size, persons living together in a common household, either married or in a marriage-like relationship, as well as both partners’ underage children living in the same household, are taken into account. If necessary, information from the population register will be checked.

The school has its own Parent-Teacher Association consisting of 5 board members and a representative for the teachers. A new board is elected each fall.

The association aims to enhance the well-being of the schoolchildren and facilitate the teachers' work. Each class has jointly chosen class parents who act as liaisons to other parents and the board of the parent association.

The school hopes for good cooperation with the homes. For issues related to the children's schooling, please contact the class teacher first. It's important to reach out and discuss in good time.
We adults are responsible for ensuring our children learn good behavior. By setting a good example in all situations, we provide our young ones with lifelong role models.

Encourage each other to become people who are enjoyable to be around.

We ask parents to remind
children to wear a bicycle helmet
when biking to school.

The Parent-Teacher Association recommends:
-   that students do not leave so early in the morning that they have to wait unnecessarily long on the schoolyard before classes start.
-   that students dress appropriately on days when they have gym class (with a towel).
-   that all clothing items are labeled.
-   that everyone wears indoor shoes with light soles.
-   that everyone biking to and from school wears a helmet. We hope for parental support in this matter!

Remember that:
-   sufficient sleep is important for children.
-   homework is part of schoolwork.
-   parental support and interest are invaluable for school work.
-   we learn good behavior at home already.
-   reading aloud to children is beneficial.

The main goal of the club activities is to enhance the well-being of children and young people. The aim is for every child and young person to have the opportunity to enjoy a hobby they like, for free, as part of their school day. Activities are organized based on students' wishes and the availability of leaders.
