Waste Management

The municipal environmental protection authority monitors the compliance with the waste law and waste management regulations. Sorting and properly handling waste is important for preserving the environment we live in.

Waste Management Board of the Vaasa Region

The Waste Committee of the Vaasa region began operations in 2014, tasked with managing the municipalities' statutory authority duties for organizing waste management, as well as other development and monitoring tasks within waste management. Among other responsibilities, the Waste Committee is the body that decides on waste management regulations and fees.

Requests for extended emptying intervals for waste bins, notification of a shared waste bin, and notification of composting (exemption from the upcoming mandatory bio-waste collection) are directed to the Waste Committee. On their website, you can find forms and more information www.avfall.fi

The meeting agendas and minutes of the Waste Committee can be found on Vaasa city's website tweb.vaasa.fi

According to the Waste Act, no one can be exempted from organized waste transportation any longer. Waste bins must be emptied in accordance with the municipal waste management regulations.

Waste management at public events

The organizer must ensure that waste management during the event is arranged with a sufficient number of waste containers intended for the purpose. For events lasting over a day, a waste management plan must be submitted to the municipality's environmental supervision authority and Ab Stormossen Oy.
