THEME: UNDERSTANDING HUMAN'S ROLE IN THE ECOSYSTEM

Understanding the human role in ecosystems is part of the central content I6 in biology for grade 9:

"They gain insight into the possibilities of bioeconomy and ecosystem services from a sustainability perspective."

  • M6 guide the student to assess changes in nature and human impact on the environment, as well as understand the importance of ecosystem services
  • M11 encourage the student to apply knowledge and skills in biology in their own life, as well as in public debates and decision-making

Climate change and the environment are part of the core content I6 in biology for 9th grade:

  • "The content relates to the preservation of biodiversity, climate change, sustainable use of natural resources, and changes in the local environment. Students reflect on ecological, social, economic, and ethical principles for the sustainable use of natural resources, sustainable food production, and animal welfare."

  • M4 encourage the student to reflect on the interaction between humans and nature and to understand the importance of sustainable use of natural resources
  • M9 teach the student to observe the environment and environmental changes, and engage the student to keep up with current events in their local area, in Finland, and around the world
  • M11 guide the student to care for nature, the built environment, and their diversity, and strengthen the student's ability to participate and influence
