For each theme area, there are references from the curriculum of each subject where the theme can be reflected.

Here are references to the thematic area The Body: self-care, food, and nutrition as well as substance abuse in the subjects PE and HE.

THEME: BODY - self-care, food and nutrition, substance abuse

"The mission of physical education is to enhance students' well-being by supporting their physical, social, and mental functioning and fostering a positive attitude towards their own bodies. [...] In gymnastics, emphasis is placed on body awareness, physical activity, and cooperation. [...] Physical education should provide students with the opportunity to experience joy, express themselves physically, participate, socialize, relax, compete, and strive playfully, as well as help others."

 

The Body is a central component of I1 in Gymnastics for Grade 5:

  • "In physical education, tasks are selected where students learn to evaluate their own functional abilities."

 

The Body is also a key element of I3 in Gymnastics for Grade 5:

  • Teaching includes tasks where students learn to persevere independently and with others to achieve a goal.

 

The objectives related to I1 and I3 in Gymnastics for Grade 5 are:

  • M1 encourage the student to be active, try different gymnastics tasks, and train to the best of their ability
  • M11 ensure the student has enough positive experiences with their own body, abilities, and being part of a community

K1: "At the same time, students' ability to see things from different perspectives, come up with new ideas, and eventually learn to critically assess information is strengthened. Students should be guided to notice the interaction and connection between different phenomena."

K2: "Students should be encouraged to appreciate and control their bodies, using them to express emotions, opinions, thoughts, and ideas."

K3: "Students should also gain knowledge about sustainable consumption and reflect on what moderation, frugality, economic planning, and sharing mean in practice, and have opportunities to practice these principles in their school work."

The Body is part of the central content I1 in Environmental Studies for Grade 5:

  • "Students practice identifying various physical and mental signals and become aware of their own thoughts, needs, attitudes, and values. They gain insight into different aspects of health, health resources, daily health habits, mental skills, disease prevention, and self-care skills."

 

The objectives related to I1 and I3 in Physical Education for Grade 5 are:

  • M6 help the student understand cause and effect relationships, draw conclusions based on results, and present their findings and research in various ways
  • M13 guide the student to understand, use, and create different models to interpret and explain humans, the environment, and related phenomena
  • M15 guide the student to explore nature, identify organisms and habitats, think ecologically, and help them understand human structure, life functions, and development
  • M19 guide the student to understand areas of health, the importance of healthy habits, the course of life, individual growth and development during childhood and adolescence, and encourage the student to practice and apply their health knowledge in daily life
