Special education within early childhood education

Special education is designed for children who need extra support or attention in some form. Every child has the right to develop at their own pace. The goal of special education is for the child to be able to function both independently and as a group member according to their own capabilities.

Preschools and special education teachers collaborate through continuous monitoring, co-teaching, and observations in child groups. When a child is assessed as needing early support, it is often the joint observations of the staff and the parents that form the basis. This can involve the child's special needs or disabilities, but also children with minor everyday concerns (social, emotional, etc.). The earlier potential difficulties are noted, the easier it is to support the child's development.

Implementation of Special Education

The municipality has three special education teachers in early childhood education who work with children who need extra support. The special education teacher, preschool, and daycare staff collaborate as needed with nurses, counselors, therapists, psychologists, teachers, social workers, or other professionals. This is done to best meet the child's needs.

Contact the daycare directors to get in touch with the special education teachers.
