Preparatory education

The preparatory education is intended for students who have moved to Finland and whose knowledge of Finnish/Swedish is too weak to participate in regular education. The activity follows the curriculum for education that prepares students for basic education.

Multicultural challenges are part of everyday life. The staff regularly receives additional training, and daily activities are developed to provide opportunities and skills to meet these challenges.

In early childhood education, there are immigrant children aged 0-6 years who are integrated into early childhood education or preschool.

In the Swedish-speaking education system, preparatory education for grades 1-9 is organized in the nearest local school, when the group has a sufficient number of students.

In the preparatory education program, each student receives a personalized study plan. As part of this plan, the student studies Finnish or Swedish and possibly their native language. Additionally, the student is integrated into regular education. The main focus of the teaching is on language learning and on acquiring the essential skills needed for daily life and schooling.

The preparatory education for children aged 6-10 is at least 900 hours, and for older children, at least 1000 hours.

After completing the preparatory education, the student is transferred to a local school. At this point, the student is entitled to receive additional support classes in Swedish/Finnish beyond the school's regular support resources. In Vörå, native language education is also provided for immigrant students if a sufficient number of students enroll in the group.
