Student Welfare

Student welfare refers to promoting and maintaining the student's good learning, physical and psychological health, and social well-being, as well as activities that enhance these conditions.

Student welfare is the responsibility of everyone working in the school and the authorities accountable for student care services. It is conducted in collaboration with the student and the guardian, following the local curriculum.

Within student support services, the aim is to prevent, detect, alleviate, and eliminate obstacles to growth and learning, learning difficulties, and other problems as early as possible.

Student support is organized through interdisciplinary cooperation involving the school principal, special education teachers, other concerned teachers, school health services, social services, the school counselor, and school psychologist. Together, they form a student support team that meets at least twice per academic year to assess the need for student support services among students in the community's schools.

The local curriculum describes in detail:

  • how student support services are organized and implemented
  • how cooperation, responsibility, and division of tasks among the different parties are arranged
  • how cooperation with guardians is organized

The primary role of the school counselor is to promote students' social development and ability to act. The school counselor can support the student in various life situations. This can occur through individual support conversations, group discussions, talks with the family/part of the family, and class discussions.

The school counselor works in the school for the students' benefit. Every student should have the right to a safe school experience and access to support to succeed in their education.

The student can contact the school counselor on their own initiative. The initiative for a conversation can also come from guardians, teachers, or another person but should be done in consultation with the student.

The student can contact the school counselor if they have concerns or issues related to, for example:

  • relationship problems
  • loneliness, bullying
  • school fatigue
  • worries about the future
  • family issues
  • feeling down
  • worry about a friend
  • various school difficulties
  • or just need someone to talk to.

Guardians can also contact the school counselor regarding concerns about their child. This can relate to the child's education, family issues, parenting questions, the child's mental health, and social well-being.

You can book an appointment by calling, sending a message (via SMS or Wilma), or emailing. You can also come without an appointment to see if the school counselor is available.

The school counselor's office is located in Tegengrenskolan.
