A Painted Cultural Heritage – Paul Hägglund’s Donation

Paul Hägglund is a self-taught artist and photographer who took over his father's photography shop in Vörå in 1961 and ran it until his retirement in 1995. He painted his first painting at the age of 16, and after retiring, he devoted himself wholeheartedly to painting. His subjects focus on rural life – cultural landscapes, old trades, and tools.

Donation to the Municipality

Paul Hägglund has donated an extensive collection of oil paintings to the municipality of Vörå. The works depict rural life: various professions and working methods, life at home and on the farm, traditions, and celebrations. They mainly represent the time when most things were still done by hand – the 1940s and 1950s – but more recent years are also included.

The donation includes both Paul Hägglund's first painting, Segelbåt from 1949, and his last work, Rexgården i Rökiö, painted in 2023. Together, the collection forms a unique historical record of the Ostrobothnian cultural landscape.

Availability and Administration

The paintings can be loaned for exhibitions by agreement.

All paintings are cataloged and described in Swedish, Finnish, and English. These descriptions are included when a loan is made.
