"It's important to promote safe traffic behavior when moving to sports facilities outside of school."

Traffic is included in the central content I1 in physical education for grade 3

• "The tasks should give students the opportunity to practice observing and choosing suitable solutions in various physical education situations (e.g., outdoor activities and ball games) and to enhance their balance and mobility skills, as well as their ability to handle equipment through diverse forms of exercise (e.g., activities on ice, in snow, in nature, basic exercises, music and dance aerobics, as well as ball games and equipment gymnastics) and different sports during various seasons and in different learning environments."

The objectives related to I1 in physical education for grade 3 are:

• M2 guide the student to train their sensorimotor skills, i.e., to observe themselves and their surroundings using various senses and to choose suitable solutions in different physical education situations
• M4 guide the student to both strengthen and adapt their ability to handle equipment in a versatile manner by using different tools in various learning environments, during different seasons, and in different situations 
• M7 guide the student to act safely and responsibly during physical education lessons 
• M10 encourage the student to take responsibility for their actions and strengthen their ability to work independently

K1: "Teaching should enhance the ability to ask questions and seek answers independently and collaboratively by observing and using various sources of information and tools."

K3: "Students should be supported in navigating independently in expanding environments and using public transport. It's especially important to focus on bicycle safety and how to ensure one's own and others' safety in traffic. Students are guided to use appropriate safety and protective equipment and become familiar with key safety symbols."

K4: "Students should learn to interpret, produce, and critically examine increasingly varied texts in different contexts and environments. Here, texts refer to various types of information expressed through verbal, visual, auditory, numerical, or kinesthetic symbol systems or combinations of these."

K7: "They should be guided to understand the importance of their own choices and actions, as well as their lifestyle, for themselves, but also for their immediate environment, society, and nature."

Traffic is part of the core content I2 in environmental studies for grade 3

• "They explore how devices and different constructions work. Safety knowledge is developed in areas such as traffic, fire, electrical safety, accidents, poisoning, substances, bullying prevention, physical and mental integrity, and actions in emergency and risk situations."

Traffic is part of the core content I4 in environmental studies for grade 3

• "In their living environment, they pay attention to both living and non-living nature, the built and social environment, as well as phenomena, materials, and technical applications in the surroundings."

The goals related to I2 and I4 in environmental studies for grade 3 are:

• M1 to spark and maintain the student's interest in the environment and environmental studies and help the student realize that all subject areas in environmental studies are important for them
• M5 to help the student plan and conduct small investigations, make observations and measurements in diverse learning environments using different senses and investigation and measurement tools
• M9 to guide the student in exploring, taking action, moving, and going on excursions in nature and the built environment
• M16 to guide the student in geographical thinking, observing their environment and the entire world, and learning to use maps and other geomedia

K1: "Education should enhance the ability to ask questions and seek answers independently and collaboratively by observing and using various sources of information and tools."

K3: "Students should be supported to move independently in an increasingly broader environment and in public transport. It is especially important to focus on cycling skills and how to ensure their own and others' safety in traffic. Students are guided to use appropriate safety and protective equipment and to become familiar with the main safety symbols."
