For each thematic area, there are references from the curriculum for each subject where the theme can be reflected.

Here are references to the thematic area of waste and sorting in the subject of environmental studies.

THEME: WASTE AND SORTING

 Waste and Sorting are included in the central content I6 in environmental studies for grade 1:

  • "The students practice taking care of their own and shared belongings. They learn to reduce waste and to recycle and sort waste."


The objectives related to I6 in environmental studies for grade 1 are:

  • M1 provide the student opportunities to express their natural curiosity and help them realize the importance of the content in environmental studies
  • M3 support the student in developing a sense of the environment and instruct them to act in a sustainable manner in their local environment and at school
  • M4 guide the student to explore, move around, and take trips in their local environment
  • M5 encourage the student to wonder and ask questions and use shared reflections as a basis for small investigations and other activities
  • M7 guide the student to comprehensively describe, compare, and classify organisms, habitats, phenomena, materials, and situations, and to name them
  • M8 guide the student to act in a safe and secure manner, follow given instructions, and understand the reasons for them
  • M10 guide the student in developing their ability to work in a group and their emotional skills, as well as to strengthen respect for themselves and others
  • M11 guide the student to use information and communication technology to search for information and to document and present observations
  • M13 help the student understand simple pictures, models, and maps that describe the surroundings

K1: "By using age-appropriate problem-solving and research tasks, students' curiosity and interest in the world around them are awakened, and their ability to structure, name, and describe their environment is strengthened."

K2: "It is important to consider how one can affect their own environment and its culture."

K3: "In school, students should learn basic facts about what promotes personal and communal well-being, safety, and a good everyday life. [...] Students should be guided towards critical consumption habits and to reflect on what thrift, moderation, and environmental thinking mean for consumer choices and what they imply for their own actions."

K4: "Students should be guided to achieve competence in multiliteracy, meaning the ability to interpret, produce, and critically review texts of various kinds suitable for their age. Here, texts refer to different types of information expressed through verbal, visual, auditory, numerical, or kinesthetic symbol systems or combinations of these."

K7: "Together with the students, one should ponder what a fair and sustainable future means in our country and in the world and how they themselves can contribute to such a future."
